Digital printing is a method of manufacturing that makes printed material from digital electronic files. It involves creating artwork on a PC or Mac and then printing directly onto the material of your choice. Digital printing is an alternative to traditional methods such as screen printing, flexography, or gravure. Digital Printing eliminates many of the mechanical steps required for conventional printing, such as making films and screens.
There are no additional costs for creating screens. That saves money initially. Digital printing only saves if the print volumes are medium to low. For high volumes, screen printing is still the better option because parts can be produced faster.
Directly printing onto the film saves time and materials. It is an additive process. Digital printing still involves UV ink and chemicals, but there are no extra procedures like screen printing has. The pre-press time and materials have been eliminated. There are no screens, emulsion, screen making time or extra solvents used in the printing process.
Because there are no pre-press procedures and screens, the initial setup time is reduced. The printing can begin as soon as the digital art files are created.
If you’re looking to print dozens to hundreds of part, the screen printing setup might not be necessary. With digital printing, you can print in orders in small batches and not incur the setup costs.
With digital printing, you can print samples to verify color accuracy. This ensures that you’re printing exactly what you intended. The images can also be more complex with a larger variety of colors.
What is the adhesive vinyl film?
Adhesive vinyl is a thin, flexible, self-adhesive material (think durable sticker) that is typically used to create wall and window decals and business signage. It’s durable and can also be waterproof which makes it very versatile. Adhesive vinyl comes in many forms; glossy, matte, glitter, patterned, metallic, just to name a few. However, the two main types of adhesive vinyl are removable and permanent.
Removable Indoor Vinyl is great for temporary applications such as wall decals, indoor signs, or chalkboards. It typically has a matte finish.
Permanent Outdoor Vinyl is the most well-known and widely used craft vinyl because of its long-lasting permanent adhesive. The permanent outdoor vinyl is perfect for coffee mugs, water bottles, car decals, and any outdoor application. While it’s not truly “permanent” it does last for up to 8 years! Outdoor vinyl typically comes in a glossy finish but there are a few matte options as well.
